(Rochester, NY) This morning, Malik D. Evans was selected as the endorsed candidate for Mayor by the Monroe County Democratic Committee (MCDC).

Mayor Evans won the party’s designation on the first ballot and was by far the top vote-getter of Democrats citywide, receiving majority support among Democratic Committee members from Charlotte to the 19th Ward.

“I thank the Monroe County Democratic Committee for its resounding endorsement,” Mayor Evans said. “I accept the charge to lead the City of Rochester and continue the historic work we have started.”

In his acceptance speech this morning, Mayor Evans reiterated his plans to accelerate the momentum achieved in his first term on key priorities including violence reduction, youth development, housing, and economic empowerment, and strengthening neighborhoods.

“Despite uncertainty elsewhere, together we are ready to continue to grow,” he said. “With strong leadership at the City, working with our partners in government and the people of Rochester, we are in a powerful position to build on our successes in the years to come.”
