Building a Strong Rochester Starts at Home

Housing isn’t just shelter, it is the foundation of financial security and opportunity.

That’s why Mayor Malik D. Evans has made housing a top priority. Since 2022, Mayor Evans has overseen:

  • The planning, building, or completion and opening of $1 billion+ in affordable rental units – more than 3,000 units for extremely low- and very low-income residents!
  • The planning, building, completion, and opening of $500,000 in market-rate rental units – more than 900 units, priced according to supply and demand. More market-rate housing in Rochester contributes to a dynamic and responsive housing market by increasing the overall housing supply
  • Increasing homeownership through dozens of programs that support new home buyers, current homeowners, and partner organizations – from the City’s heralded Buy The Block program and new Rochester Land Bank programs to important partnerships with Habitat for Humanity and First Genesis Development Corp.

This level of success requires partnership!

Mayor Evans’ “we not me” approach has welcomed numerous construction and development partners, including non-profit and faith-based organizations, all working together to provide more quality housing in the City of Rochester!

Stable, affordable housing sets the stage for strong families, vibrant neighborhoods, and a thriving Rochester. When families have a safe, secure place to call home, children succeed in school, adults can grow in their careers, and neighborhoods become more connected and resilient.
