Trust and Transparency must be the cornerstone of government and underlie every action a public servant takes. The people of Rochester should trust that their interests, not personal interests or special interests, will come first for their Mayor. Building and maintaining Trust and Transparency requires continuous communication and information sharing; openness about decision making; receptiveness to input; and accountability for actions. Malik believes this type of open and collaborative government is achievable in Rochester if we pair technological tools with the character and will to make it a reality. As Mayor, Malik will:

“Difficult issues will arise in every relationship in life. Some we can foresee, but many will be unexpected.However, when those issues arise good partners communicate and face them together head on. As a husband and a parent, I know that trust and communication is the foundation for a strong relationship, and it’s no different in governance. That act of communicating and being transparent in times both good and bad, forms the foundation of trust that binds people together. The people of Rochester should expect no less from their public servants who frequently make decisions that affect their lives in profound ways.”

The people of Rochester should trust that their interests, not personal interests or special interests, will come first for their Mayor. As Mayor, Malik will direct a team to review and update all city websites and information sharing infrastructures. All available technological tools will be employed to provide as user friendly and informative an experience as possible on city websites. This team will also be tasked with not only ensuring that the people of Rochester can easily view and track information about city government over the internet, but with developing integrated processes to encourage community participation and capture feedback through those portals. As Mayor, Malik will be accessible and accountable, and ensure that the day to day operations and focus of City Hall always reflect the needs of our communities. Malik pledges to be open about decision making, receptive to input, and bridge the gap between the people of Rochester and city government.
