White House Conference on Philanthropy, 1999

On October 22, 1999 Malik travelled to Washington, DC to participated in the first ever White House Conference on Philanthropy, entitled Gifts to the Future. At the conference Malik, along with a diverse group of philanthropic experts, youth, program leaders, donors and innovators, discussed history and current state of Philanthropy in the United States. Furthermore, they explored ways to sustain such practices for future generations.

Following an introduction by former First lady Hilary Clinton, Malik was given the opportunity to discuss his conclusions from a roundtable discussion dealing with youth and philanthropy. During his summary, Malik stated his outlook on the importance of education and youth service:

"And lastly, a big one was education. We have to understand that school is important, and we have to integrate education with service, because one of the biggest forms of philanthropy is service. So from kindergarten on up, service has got to be a major part of the curriculum in our schools."
